Whooping cough is extremely contagious and can cause serious, potentially deadly illness, especially in babies.
"Many babies who get whooping cough are infected by parents, older siblings, or other caregivers who might not even know they have the disease," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "Anyone who comes in close contact with your baby, from older siblings and cousins to grandparents and caregivers, should be up-to-date with whooping cough vaccination."
"We as older adults aren't recognizing that immunizations we got when we were younger have now worn off," Gordon said.
Gordon will be racing at Phoenix International Raceway this weekend.
