PHOENIX -- Many World War II veterans headed out of Sky Harbor International Airport Tuesday to see a memorial in their honor in Washington D.C.

The veterans are making the trip thanks to Honor Flight Arizona, an organization that honors WWII veterans. Honor Flight Arizona has raised money to pay for the trips.

The National WWII Memorial was created in 2004 in honor of those who served.

Several of the veterans traveling to see the memorial are going with family members who have paid their own way. Another flight is being planned for veterans to see the memorial in April 2014.
