Pulling a school bus to raise money for local charityPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- “And they're off, they're looking strong, they're about to cross the finish line and stop, good job,” said an announcer at the 4th annual Pull the Bus fundraiser for Valley of the Sun United Way.
All the teams have to do is pull 27,000 pounds of yellow steel on wheels 20 feet.
Peoria Unified school employees, along with Peoria Police and Fire jumped at the idea.
“Each participant that we had today paid $10 to participate and of course all that money going to help the most critical needs in our community for Valley of the Sun United Way,” said Danielle Airey with Valley of the Sun United Way.
The team with the fastest time won the coveted Pull the Bus trophy, but for the Peoria fire team, it was all about beating the police, and they did.
“It feels pretty good, it's the first year for us to do it. We had only eight people on our team where others had 10 and so that feels even better,” said Capt. Rob Brewster with Peoria Fire.
In all, the 4th annual Pull the Bus fundraiser pulled in a few thousand dollars for Valley of the Sun United Way.
