Fall holiday fashionsPosted: Updated:
Holiday season is almost here. That means invitations to holiday parties and seasonal events. Fashion expert Alison Goodman of the Scottsdale Quarter has tips to keep you shining like a star this holiday season.
Don't: be afraid to wear your fancy dresses during the day. Maximize the wear of that cocktail dress by pairing it with a pair of opaque tights and a black blazer during the day. For the fashion risk-takers, throw a long-sleeved white collared shirt or slim-fitting turtleneck under the dress - this look is one of the top trends for winter.
Do: incorporate leather. Leather pieces are everywhere, faux and real. Don a leather skirt, leather peplum top, leather moto jacket, leather leggings - they all work and they're all over! Just be sure to pair your leather with a contrasting fabric: think a chunky wool sweater with leather leggings or a feminine, flirty dress under your moto.
Don't: be afraid of resurrection. Fashion is cyclical and right now, '90s fashion is all the rage: think plaid flannel shirts, Doc Marten combat boots and babydoll dresses with knee-high socks. If the '90s aren't your jam, then jump right back into the swinging '60s: bold-colored shift dresses and slim cropped pants are the perfect pieces to bring the past into the present.
Do: take a cue from the boys. Menswear fashion is having its moment and slim cut suits, wide-leg pants and ties for ladies are a perfect way to change up your work look. Take it back a notch and throw your suit jacket on with a pair of cuffed shorts with tights underneath: masculine and feminine at its finest.
