MESA, Ariz. -- The 16-year-old son of a woman who was murdered early Saturday morning was arrested late Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday morning, Mesa police said they had also arrested a 17-year-old friend of the son's in connection with the case.
Police discovered that 36-year-old Tina Helms Spencer had died after responding to a residence near the U.S. 60 and Gilbert Road after receiving word of an altercation.
The 16-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder, concealment of a dead body and tampering with evidence. He is also facing an attempted first-degree murder charge and three counts of aggravated assault for an altercation with his stepfather.
The 17-year-old is charged with being an accomplice to first-degree murder, concealment of a dead body, and tampering with evidence.
