PHOENIX – A fatal wreck forced the closure of Van Buren Street in West Phoenix for several hours Monday morning.
It happened at about 4 a.m. at 47th Avenue, which is an industrial area.
According to police, a small car was turning onto Van Buren Street.
“The small silver passenger car was attempting to go southbound and make a left-hand turn from 47th Avenue onto Van Buren, [and] basically failed to yield from that stop sign,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said.
A van that was westbound on Van Buren Street T-boned the little car, spinning it around.
The driver of the little car was killed.
The driver of the van was taken to a local hospital. At last check, that person was in serious condition.
Police have not identified either one of the victims.
Van Buren Street was closed between 43rd and 51st Avenues for most of the morning.
