PHOENIX -- A fire at an apartment in North Phoenix claimed one life early Saturday morning.

The fire occurred at around 2 a.m, near 20th Avenue and Butler, at the Sonoma Vista Apartments.

Phoenix Fire Captain Tony Muir said that when Phoenix Fire was called to the scene, they were told that a woman may be trapped in one of the apartments.

It turns out, that woman believed to be trapped in a second-story apartment was okay.

However, when firefighters extinguished the fire, they ended up discovering a burnt body in one of the apartments.

Neighbors said they believed an elderly woman lived in the apartment where the body was found.

No other injuries were reported.

Police and fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire and have not yet identified the deceased victim.
