OAK CREEK CANYON, Ariz. -- An 80-year-old woman died Thursday after being struck by a falling tree while hiking in West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said Sedona resident Phyllis Lindberg was hiking with four friends when they decided to stop for lunch just after 11 a.m.

The group was resting on a log near the trail when a large conifer tree fell and hit Lindberg.

Another hiker also suffered minor injuries when the tree fell.

Members of the group called for help, but Lindberg was pronounced dead when the Sedona Fire Department arrived on scene.
