PHOENIX -- A resident allegedly involved in a deadly fight with a maintenance worker at a Phoenix apartment complex on Sunday has been taken into custody.
Daniel Lee Cook, 38, was taken into custody after self-surrendering to Phoenix police at about 1 p.m. Monday. He is being questioned by detectives and police said Cook will be charged, according to 3TV's Mike Watkiss.
According to witnesses, Cook got into a fight with Richard Allen Bankston, 22, at the Nueva Vista Apartments near Hatcher Road and 17th Avenue Sunday morning.
Police said witnesses told them that the two men fell into a pool during the fight and when they got out, Cook hit Bankston in the chest with some sort of object. Cook then took off.
Bankston was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Police said when they arrived they were told Cook was inside his apartment, but when officers went to investigate he was no longer there.
Police have not determined a motive for the fight.
