FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Flagstaff and northern Arizona.

Meteorologists say 3 to 5 inches of snow above 6,500 feet are expected from the cold storm.

The weather advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until noon Thursday.

Most locations above 6,500 feet should see steady snow by 5 a.m. that will start as rain. The heaviest snow is expected between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday.

A winter weather advisory is issued when periods of falling snow will cause travel difficulties.

Authorities say motorists should prepare for slippery roads and limited visibility in the northern Arizona area.
