PHOENIX – A man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix.

A judge also sentenced James E. Bellinger, 30, on Friday to five years intensive probation.

Bellinger pleaded guilty to manslaughter and hit-and-run with death/injury.

Police said Bellinger hit a woman on a motorcycle then fled the scene on Jan. 11.

Bellinger reportedly was making a turn at Las Palmaritas Drive and 19th Avenue when he pulled in front of the motorcycle.

He drove to the area of Northern Avenue and Interstate 17, got out of his vehicle and walked away.

A witness noticed that Bellinger appeared to be acting odd and called police, who then took him into custody.

At the time of his arrest, police said Bellinger showed signs of drug use.

The woman died at a local hospital.
