PHOENIX -- Phoenix Fashion Week 2013 kicks off Thursday night and will be running through Saturday, Oct. 5.

Fashion Week takes place at Talking Stick Resort, located at Indian Bend Road and the 101 in Scottsdale, and will be showcasing fashion from designers based in the Valley as well as from around the world.

Between the three nights, Phoenix Fashion Week features the work of 12 emerging designers and 12 established designers on the runway.

“We have designers come from all over the globe to the desert,” said Brian Hill, CEO of Phoenix Fashion Week. “It’s like a mecca of fashion now that we’ve created. There’s a designer from Manila, Mexico, New York, LA. They’re all over and they’re coming here for what we’re putting on."

Every year, Phoenix Fashion Week travels throughout the U.S. to eight different cities to discover new designers. Fashion Week then chooses 12 emerging designers to invite to their four-month apparel boot camp where they learn about the business side of fashion and how to expand their brand’s vision.

The winner of the 2013 Emerging Designer Contest will be announced on Saturday, Oct. 5, the final night of Phoenix Fashion Week. They win a prize package valued at more than $10,000 with services and products that help the emerging designer launch their line.

Yetta Gibson spoke with Rachel Wagner, designer of Doux Belle Collection, on "Good Morning Arizona" Thursday. She will be featured as an emerging designer during Saturday night’s show.

“I’m very proud of myself that I’ve accomplished something that I set out a year ago. I went to last year’s show and then I saw what was presented and I thought I need to do this,” Wagner said. “I didn’t think I was going to be selected and then I got selected, so it has been an amazing journey and learning everything about fashion and the business aspect of it.”

Besides watching the fashion shows, guests can shop at the Style Villa, provided by Michael Kors this year. Style Villa will have about 12 different booths where guests can purchase items from emerging and established designers, local boutiques, and other fashion brands. Style Villa begins at 5 p.m. each day.

“You can get up from your seat and come and shop,” said Brittany Dawn Brannon, host of Phoenix Fashion Week.

Although Phoenix Fashion Week focuses on fashion, guests can enjoy a variety of experiences during the event.

“When you get here you’re going to realize that there is a whole other experience that you’re going to receive included in that ticket,” Brannon said. “It’s really just a great social aspect.”
