PHOENIX -- Friday afternoon, massage students at Pima Medical Institute were in class when an 87-year-old female driver suddenly plowed into the classroom.

"Haili had stood up at the time the car started to impact through the window and as Haili stood up she screamed," said Haili Hill's mother, Jo Hill.

The car had pinned Haili and her classmate, Lacey Gruntorad.
"Haili said Lacey had already passed and she was buried under the rubble as the engine kept revving, " said Haili's mom.

Haili told her mom that her fellow classmates tried to stop the driver from pressing down on the gas pedal.

Haili's injuries include three fractures to her back, severe cuts to her legs, a crushed right ankle and a fractured pelvis.

Gruntorad, 22, died in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police said there were no signs of impairment.
