NOGALES, Ariz. -- Authorities in southern Arizona found nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana in a horse trailer this week.
The Santa Cruz High Intensity Drug Trafficking Investigative Task Force made the discovery Thursday after stopping the trailer on Highway 82 near Nogales.
During the course of an investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the task force learned that a vehicle pulling a horse trailer would be transporting marijuana.
Task force members reportedly saw a vehicle that was pulling a trailer fail to stay in its lane and initiated a traffic stop.
Inside the trailer authorities found 116 bundles of marijuana surrounding a horse.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and has yet to be located.
The horse was turned over to Santa Cruz County Animal Control.
