PHOENIX – Phoenix police said a man stabbed a woman inside a Walgreens store after buying a knife in order to kill a random person.

Christopher Scott Gale, 26, was arrested Friday night. He faces felony charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Gale purchased a chef's knife with an 8-inch blade at a Walmart Friday evening. According to court documents, Gale admitted to buying the knife with the intent to stab and kill someone so that he would get the electric chair.

He then went to a Walgreens at Central Avenue and Osborn Road where police said he stabbed a female shopper in the back of the neck.

Police said he then wandered through the store with the knife raised over his head, looking for another person to stab.

An armed off-duty federal agent who was in the store at the time confronted Gale and he surrendered.

According to the court paperwork, Gale indicated to police that his future includes torturing other people and he has no regard for human life.

Police said Gale is a drug user and his drug of choice is meth.

The victim survived the attack.
