PHOENIX – One man is dead and a second is recovering after a double stabbing at a West Phoenix home.
It happened just before 10 p.m. Monday in the neighborhood of 91st Avenue and Camelback Road.
Police were still on the scene at 8 a.m., some ten hours after the incident.
According to Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department, a 911 caller told the dispatcher that her father and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight and both had been stabbed.
Detectives are still putting together the details, but they believe the father, Carlos Valdez Jr., had gone to the house to check on his grandchildren.
At this point, they don’t know what sparked the fight or who the aggressor was. Police say other people who were at the home when the fight started saw everything.
Crump said the father left the scene. He was found a short time later in his truck a few blocks from the house. He later died of his injuries.
The boyfriend is being treated and is expected to recover.
Neighbor Barbara Angulo heard the fight.
"Blood-curdling screaming," she told 3TV's Ryan O'Donnell. "It's awful."
Police are not looking for anybody else in connection with the stabbings and are now calling it a homicide.
