Beneficial Beauty Ideas for the Gal on the Go

Posted: Updated:

Just about every woman I talk with seems to be as crazy busy I have been since the school year started.  Since I’m on the go every day, I have been brainstorming ways and trying products that help to keep me looking refreshed while I’m constantly running around town.  Check out the products that I like and the ideas that are working as I run 24/7 to keep up with my family’s schedule, while also trying to keep myself healthy and looking good, too.  That is not always an easy thing to do, that is for sure!

First A Few Tips For Good Health While On The Run:

*Stay hydrated!  Always have water with you, always.  A good choice for a refreshing healthy on the go drink when you need a change from water is a green tea without the sugar.  Starbucks and AJ’s offer up the best ones, in my opinion and I like my green tea on ice.

*My two favorite on the go energy bars for busy women are My Fit Foods Oatmega bars and the KIND line.  The Oatmega bar is whey based and contains fish oil that is not detected in the taste at all.  Plus the bars have a good amount of fiber and they are sweetened with organic brown rice syrup which is better than white sugar.  They also contain green tea antioxidants, without the caffeine and they come in yummy flavors that include Dark Chocolate Peanut, Vanilla Almond, Blueberry Pomegranate and other good flavors.  The bars sell for $2.50 a piece at My Fit Foods locations.  For Valley locations,   visit

My other go to bar is the KIND bar because I can pronounce the ingredients in these bars, which is something that I have been teaching my kids to do.  Look for foods with only whole ingredients and KIND bars meet this criteria since they are made with all natural nuts, fruits and whole grains.  And they are really yummy.  The Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Bar tastes like a Snicker candy bar, I swear!  But with the KIND bar you are only getting 10 grams of sugar versus the 26 grams of sugar a Snickers bar packs in.  Plus this flavor of the KIND bar gives you 7 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.  This is one of the more decadent flavors, but it is still a good option for a treat on the run.

*Keep a healthy beauty bag in your purse that includes lip balm, moisturizer and some EmergenC packets.  If you start to feel rundown, pour an EmergenC packet into bottled water so you can start upping your Vitamin C no matter where you are or what you are doing.

*Schedule some me down time!  This is so important to do.  If you are as busy as I am, you have to schedule it, but do so.  Make time for a pedicure, massage or even quiet time at a book store with a cup of tea.  Women often times run the household, so find time to keep your own batteries recharged.

*Gal pal power!
Also make time to schedule lunch or wine with a gal pal.  This is very nurturing for us busy ladies.

*My least favorite tip, but it makes all the difference, is to exercise.
To keep time and financial strain to a minimum, try at home workout tapes.  I am really digging the Reebox Stability Ball fitness DVD.  The workout offers a 20 minute or 50 minute exercise routine.  It is a fun way to burn calories from head to toe.  My arms, abs and legs all get a good workout  in under an hour.  I bought my stability ball and workout DVD at the Reebox outlet store located in the Phoenix Premium Outlets off the I10 East and the Wild Horse Pass exit.  Try it!

Beneficial Beauty Products for the On the Go Gal

*Elizabeth Arden Red Door Professional Ultra Healing Body Balm ($24 at Red Door Spa locations) – This product is great for tired feet and all over the body, too.  Just as I mentioned that we need to stay hydrated, the same is true about our skin.  As we run around all day in our dry climate, our skin takes a beating.  I love the body balm because it has beeswax to protect the skin and prevent moisture loss, sunflower oil to nourish skin with Omega 5 fatty acids, peppermint oil for the healing properties and lemon essential oil to boost circulation.  This also stimulates collagen and elastin production.

*AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ ($60 at Nordstrom and Sephora stores) – For a quality and unique foundation, check out this product that is a base neatly tucked into a easy to run with compact for application and touch-ups on the go.   Plus this formula is like having a compact powder and foundation all in one, so you can multi-task with this one as you multi-task through your day.  I also like this brand because it comes with a puff, so you won’t get product on your hands and the ingredients are top notch.  Instead of a water-in-oil base, this is made with 100% Bamboo sap, which is an ingredient that is rich in natural moisture, antioxidants and amino acids.  You also get an automatic refill and a fresh sponge included with your purchase, which is a good value.

*Per-fekt Matte Body Perfection Gel ($48 at Sephora stores) – This is a cool alternative to a self tanner or a spray tan.  I personally don’t like spray tans because I feel like I breathe in the chemicals, so I was intrigued to try this and it works.  This goes on like a gel, but quickly pats on dry to give skin a smooth, flawless, finished and sun-kissed appearance.  It also helps to cover up imperfections, bruises and more.  This line was founded in Hollywood by Richard Anderson and is used by lots of celebrities including Kelly Ripa, Victoria and David Beckham and many others.

*Vapour Aura Organic Beauty Multi Use Blush ($34 at  ) – I see why this is an Allure beauty winner.  Not only does is multitask to work on cheeks and lips, but it is also 100% natural and chemical free with 70% certified organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins.  The warmth of your fingertip helps the stick to glide on smoothly for a natural on the go glow, so if you look pale and tired after a long day, keep a tube of this in your purse to give yourself and some color on your cheeks and lips all at once.  Smart product for sure.

*Per-fekt Eye Perfection Gel ($45 at Sephora) – Tired puffy eyes can go hand in hand with busy gals on the go, so I was anxious to try this eye gel and I love it for several reasons.  First of all, it contains cucumber extract that works for under the eyes.  It also contains peptides for anti-aging benefits and the gel works on the lids, too.  Used on the lids, this works as an eye shadow primer which prevents creasing and lengthens the life of your daily eye shadow so you can go from day to night with preserved eye makeup. It is also free of oil, wax, fragrance, talc and parabens and is sweat and water-resistant, making this my new favorite tired eye makeup remedy product.

*Red Door Elizabeth Arden Professional Olive Oil Moisturizing Body Spray ($29 at Red Door Spa locations) – You will love the light and airy scent this spray sports.  I also like the ingredients that include sunflower oil and apricot which gives skin on the spot hydration without leaving any residue.  If you are in a hurry in the morning, spray this stuff on your skin to be moisturized and to smell nice in an instant.  It enables you to skip the lotion and that saves time.  Just spray and go.  I love this one!
