LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Allegiant Air is telling passengers that 12 flights are canceled while it continues to overhaul emergency slides on its MD-80 aircraft.

Monday's cancellations are on six routes, including four into and out of McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas and one each involving flights in and out of Phoenix and Tampa-St. Petersburg, Fla.

Allegiant spokeswoman Jessica Wheeler says the Las Vegas-based airline is contacting affected passengers by email and telephone to tell them their flights will be made up Tuesday.

Company officials didn't immediately say how many aircraft were in use Monday or how many flights the airline was operating.

Allegiant began overhauling slides on its 52 MD-80 aircraft last week after reviewing maintenance intervals following the emergency evacuation of a Sept.16 Allegiant flight at McCarran.

A list of affected flights on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 can be found at http://www2.allegiantair.com.  Allegiant has activated additional call center staff, and Allegiant will be contacting affected travelers directly.
