PHOENIX -- A dive team recovered the body of a man who drowned in the lower Salt River Sunday afternoon.
Pedro A. Ramos-Chaves, 34, waded into the shallow water in the Blue Rock area then continued to walk into deeper water where he began to struggle, according to Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Witnesses began swimming toward Ramos-Chaves to help, but he went underwater and never resurfaced.
MCSO lake patrol deputies arrived and learned that Ramos-Chaves had been extremely intoxicated, Enriquez said.
An MCSO Search and Recovery Dive Team located Ramos-Chaves in about 10 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the medical examiner's office responded and found no obvious signs of trauma.
The case will remain open pending the results of the investigation by the ME's office.
