PHOENIX – During the past couple of days," Good Morning Arizona" has been previewing some chefs participating in Arizona Restaurant Week, which begins Saturday, Sept. 21.

Chefs James Fox and Michael O’Dowd competed head to head on Good Morning Arizona Friday. Both chefs prepared pork belly dishes and their restaurants will be participating in Arizona Restaurant Week.

Arizona Restaurant Week lasts for nine days, Sept. 21-29, and more than 150 restaurants are participating this year. The event will return in Spring 2014.

Chef O’Dowd from Renegade by MOD, created pork belly with peaches cooked similarly to a peach cobbler. He said he smoked the pork belly for 24 hours and cured it with his own mole olive oil with 24 karat gold in it. The pork belly dish will be on the menu during Restaurant Week at Renegade by MOD, located at 9343 E. Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale, off the 101.

Chef Fox of Bootleggers created a different pork belly dish that was smoked for 12 hours and served with a bing cherry barbecue sauce. Bootleggers will also be part of Restaurant Week. Fox said the first course offered will be a trio of smoked turkey mini grilled cheese, baked potato soup with bacon from tender belly, and short rib and Brussels sprout salad. Bootleggers opened in May 2013, and is located in Phoenix at 3375 E. Shea Blvd., off the 51.

Arizona Restaurant Week features top restaurants throughout the state and allows people to try a variety of foods. Restaurants offer prix-fixed $30-$40 three-course dinners.

Tickets do not need to be purchased, but it is recommended to make reservations during Restaurant Week because restaurants fill up quickly.
