PEORIA, Ariz. -- The new Pioneer Community Park opens this weekend.

Located on the southeast corner of 83rd and Olive avenues in Peoria, the 83-acre park has something for everyone.

There are six lighted baseball/softball fields with shaded canopy seating for spectators, four lighted multi-use fields, an open grassy turf area that can be used for performances or play, picnic areas with ramadas, grills and benches, a trail throughout the park, a community garden, a five-acre fully stocked fishing lake, a play area with a splash pad and interactive water games, a dog park park, and  about 1,000 parking spaces.

Lake fishing will be allowed beginning Jan. 12, 2014. Ramada and Heritage Court reservations are available now for dates after Oct. 1.

The park cost more than $26.5 million to build, which includes the land that was purchased nearly 10 years ago.
