Wheel of Fortune starts new season Monday on 3TVPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The new season of Wheel of Fortune kicks off Monday night right here on 3TV. And our Yetta Gibson traveled to Las Vegas to meet with the show's stars, and find out what's ahead in the upcoming season.
Pat Sajak and Vanna White took their crew to Vegas recently to tape some of the shows, on location. Yetta got to sit down with each of them to get some behind-the-scenes scoop.
The show takes about 45 minutes to tape. And Pat and Vanna will often tape a series of shows in just one day.
Sajak says an important part of his job is connecting with people and helping make them comfortable. He makes sure to sit down and talk to each guest before the show tapes.
"The reason why we do those little interviews at the beginning, making little jokes, it's not to show how glib and wonderful I am," Sajak jokes. "It's to try to get these folks at ease and get their minds off of what's going on."
Sajak says he can't blame folks for feeling nervous before going on the air. "It's very hard in the studio," he says. "I really do care. They are vulnerable. TV is just so smart-mouth; it's all about embarrassing people and voting them off an making them look stupid. It's just the way things are. We don't do that when people make a mistake. When that happens, I want to hug them with their dignity intact."
Vanna White will dazzle again this season, looking fabulous as usual as she reveals those letters. But, alas, those glamorous gowns are not all hers!
"All the dresses I wear go back to the designers," Vanna tells us. "So I don't get to keep them. But by the time this season ends, I will have worn more than 6,000 gowns."
Wheel of Fortune has been on the air for 32 years. "Time is a funny thing," says Sajak. "I can't ever remember not doing it. It's a fluky business. We are playing 'hangman' and for some reason it turned into this big industry."
"It's amazing," Vanna says. "I'm grateful and thankful. I still love my job."
The new season of Wheel of Fortune starts Monday at 7 p.m., right here on 3TV.
