PHOENIX –  A police officer was hospitalized early Saturday morning after a patrol car was struck at a red light.

Police said the incident occurred at an intersection near 99th Avenue and Buckeye.

As the officer was sitting in the vehicle a young woman tried to make a turn, but wound up hitting the officer’s car.

Police said they believe the woman was speeding at the time. There’s no word if impairment was a factor.

The woman also suffered injuries, but both she and the officer are expected to be ok.
