PHOENIX -- She’s done it all from singing, dancing, hosting TV award shows, producing, and acting. There’s not much Queen Latifah hasn’t done before, but on Monday, Sept. 16, her new talk show The Queen Latifah Show will debut.

She joined Good Morning Arizona’s Javier Soto Friday morning live from Los Angeles to talk more about the show.

Hosting a talk show may be a new challenge for Latifah, but she feels ready.

“I’m always up for a challenge, but I think this is a challenge I have really good eyes with,” Latifah said. “I usually like the challenges that I feel like I have the odds to succeed in, so I think I’m in good shape.”

Latifah began her career in the rap industry and still remembers those early days. She told Soto she does miss them sometimes, but enjoys how her career has developed over the years.

“I’ve grown so much since then that I’ve loved the journey that my life is taking,” Latifah said. “Yet it’s nothing like getting up on stage and spitting 16 bars of a rhyme and singing my hooks.”

Latifah was born in New Jersey in 1970 and raised by an art teacher and a cop. She said her parents supported her dreams and encouraged her to follow them.

“I had these parents who encouraged me to be strong and go for what I wanted,” Latifah said. “But at the same time I grew up with Salvador Dalí books and went to museums, so I saw that there were ways to think about things that were different and it was ok to think differently.”
