PHOENIX – A Glendale man was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison and lifetime probation in the death of his girlfriend's daughter in 2011.

Miguel Angel Garcia pleaded guilty to manslaughter and attempted child abuse charges in July.

Glendale police said Garcia was baby-sitting his girlfriend's four young children at an apartment while she was at work on Dec. 11, 2011.

Garcia told police that the 15-month-old girl was crying and he wrapped her in a blanket and put her facedown inside a closet.

Garcia said the toddler was unresponsive when he went to check on her.

The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
