PHOENIX -- A Sun City woman says she returned a pretty pricey diamond ring to the jewelry store, but had a hard time getting her money back.

Danett Pierson is a retired school teacher who has a weakness for jewelry.

"I think every woman likes to look nice and have a nice set of jewelry. It doesn't have to be the most expensive," Pierson said.

One of Pierson's favorite places to shop for jewelry is Kay Jewelers. In fact, over the past two decades or so, she says she's purchased nearly 20 pieces, ranging from necklaces to rings.

"I would consider myself a loyal customer of Kay Jewelers," Pierson said.

When Pierson was shopping for a new ring recently, she came across one that caught her attention. It wasn't exactly what she wanted, but because Kay Jewelers has a very consumer friendly return policy, Pierson used her debit card and purchased the $3,200 diamond ring.

After a few days, however, Pierson realized she didn't really like it.

"Within a week, I decided this ring was not what I intended and I wanted to return it," Pierson said.

Pierson returned the diamond ring and expected her $3,200 refund to hit her bank account within just a few days.

But days turned into more than two weeks, and Pierson grew frustrated trying to convince Kay Jewelers to give her money back. Pierson's husband suggested she contact 3 On Your Side.

3 On Your Side contacted Kay Jewelers and asked them to look into Pierson's $3,200 refund. After all, why would it take so long to get her money back?

The retailer investigated, and within just a day or two, Pierson's bank account had a full $3,200 refund. Pierson said it shouldn't have been so difficult, but she's glad she got 3 On Your Side involved.

"Well, Gary Harper, I need to thank you for helping me retrieve my money," Pierson said.  "It's been a long time. From the beginning until the end, you were there and you were very helpful with my problem."

Kay Jewelers never told 3TV why it took so long to return Pierson's money, but as soon as 3 On Your Side got involved, the money was returned in less than two business days.
