Lightning causes Pinion Fire in Tonto National Forest

TONTO BASIN, Ariz. -- A fire being referred to as the Pinion Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in the Tonto National Forest.

The fire is burning south of Roosevelt Lake and 15 miles southeast of Tonto Basin.

The Pinion Fire is burning in rocky and steep terrain.

The lightning-caused fire has spread to 300 acres.

Crews remained on scene overnight and continue to fight the fire. The Pinion Fire will be moderated by higher humidity levels and cooler temperatures tonight.
