TEMPE, Ariz. -- What goes better together than football and food? Arizona Cardinal Defensive End Calais Campbell is teaming up with Smashburger restaurants for a good cause.

Campbell put his culinary skills to the test Tuesday morning at the Smashburger at Tempe Marketplace, and created his own signature burger.

He admitted he had some nerves as he traded the gridiron for the grill. "I'm used to making things only I'm going to taste," he says. "But this right here? This is a big stage."

It's all part of the Eat & Tweet Campaign. Five percent of the proceeds from the burgers sold Tuesday at the Tempe Marketplace location will be donated to the Calais Campbell Foundation.

The CRC Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2010 to teach skills that are not typically learned in a traditional classroom setting but are necessary for real life, such as accounting, budgeting, drug and alcohol awareness, cooking, diversity awareness, and writing.

Campbell's creation will also be available on the Tempe Marketplace's Smashburger Secret Menu through the 2013 football season. The burger includes mushroom, Swiss, and fried egg. "Real simple, but delicious," he says.

The Tempe Marketplace Smashburger is located at 2000 E Rio Salado Parkway, Suite 1155, Tempe Arizona, 85281.
