Several residents evacuated due to mobile home firePosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Firefighters at a mobile home community near 87th street and McKellips had quite the fight on their hands Sunday morning, as one mobile home fire turned into three.
“I'm just freaking out because my mom is on vacation and I don't know what else to do, I want to make sure she has a home to come home to," said Gail Radaseverson, who was just down the street from the blaze.
Because of how fast the fire was spreading, police were going door to door asking everyone nearby to evacuate.
“The firemen actually broke into her house to make sure she was not in there and that she was safe,” said Radaseverson.
Irene Kemplin could see the fire from her backyard and was ready to drop everything if she had to.
“This is a little bit more excitement than I was expecting,” said Kemplin.
At one point, Kemplin said things started blowing up.
“Just one right after the other, and then all of a sudden we heard the fire department yell stay back, stay back there's going to be explosions, and then right after that, bang, bang, bang, right after the other," Kemplin recalled.
The fire department says nobody got hurt in all this and that the Red Cross showed up to help those who lost their homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
