PHOENIX -- Three Phoenix schools were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon following a fatal shooting near 59th Avenue and Campbell.

John F. Long, Marc Atkinson, and Mission High School were all placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a shooting took place at a nearby residence at around 12:15 p.m.

The 48-year-old male victim was taken to a Valley hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries.

The suspect is said to be a 40-year-old man who may have fled on a bicycle.

Police are currently searching the area for the suspect.

Anyone who notices any suspicious activity in the area is urged to call 9-1-1.
