FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) -- A man suspected of killing an Apache Junction woman last year is being held on a $1 million bond.

Prosecutors say 32-year-old Brian Kirby was arraigned Wednesday in Pinal County Superior Court in Florence after being indicted on a charge of premeditated first-degree murder.

Authorities say 42-year-old Lora Athey was found dead in her home on July 7, 2012.

Apache Junction police responded to a request for a wellness check and discovered her dead body in the house.

County prosecutors say Kirby also is facing charges including attempted murder for another July 2012 incident involving a different victim.

A pretrial conference hearing for Kirby is scheduled for Oct. 22.

It was unclear Wednesday if Kirby has an attorney yet.
