AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Avondale’s Friendship Park will be closed for the next few weeks due to damage caused by Monday’s storm.

The City of Avondale said Wednesday that the park will likely remain closed until Sept. 13.

The high winds associated with Monday’s storm knocked over several trees at Friendship Park, resulting in damaged park structures and downed light poles.

Repairs will have to be made before the park will be able to open.

“Friendship Park is the busiest park in Avondale, based on its convenient location, and large array of amenities,” said Chris Reams, Director of Parks, Recreation and Libraries. “We ask for the public’s patience as we work on repairing the park from the damage sustained by the recent storm.”
