GILA BEND, Ariz. -- The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says a dead body was found in the desert over the weekend.
MCSO said detectives responded Sunday morning to the desert off Interstate 8 in Gila Bend after receiving word of a body.
The preliminary report indicates that the body is that of a male. According to MCSO, there was no identification.
Earlier this month, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he would start placing crosses in the desert where bodies were found to urge people not to cross the desert.
“Cross number one will be placed in the desert today as a reminder not to cross the desert,” Arpaio said on Sunday.
MCSO has investigated 15 deaths in and around Gila Bend since June. The area is known for human trafficking.
