PHOENIX -- A man was taken into custody Friday afternoon following a high-speed chase that ended in the West Valley.

Police said the chase began when they attempted to make a traffic stop on 30-year-old Aaron Compton.

Compton proceeded to drive from Interstate 10 to Interstate 17 before he decided to take side streets through south Phoenix.

The chase eventually came to an end near 43rd Avenue and Buckeye when Compton attempted to flee on foot and was tackled in an alley.

Police said Compton told them that he had tried to run away because he was scared.

Compton is now facing charges of Aggravated DUI, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated assault of a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
