Quick 'anytime' workout for busy momsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Just about every mom can relate: you have to find time in the day to get the kids to school, do the shopping, fix dinner, help with homework, and clean the house. On top of that, many moms have to go to work as well.
But work out? When? One fitness expert says maybe you don't have to do it all at once. What if you had five minutes here, and five minutes there? Even if it just adds up to a 30-minute workout, you're still getting a 30-minute workout, and you're still getting the benefits.
Valley moms say they'd love to find some extra minutes each day to get in a workout. "I'm a busy mom," says Randa Stratton. "I have five kids and three jobs. I'm running here and there and I'd really like to tone up."
Randa and a few friends got some tips from one of the trainers at Bootcamp Boxing Centers of America. They showed her several easy-to-do exercises that she can run together or do separately throughout the day.
"Warm up wherever you are with a little shadowboxing," says trainer Shawn Blei. Make sure to keep your knees bent, and use your core in boxing, as if you're being punched in the stomach.
Next on the list? Ten squats. "I'm going to have you do some squats," instructs Blei. "This will help hit all the spots we women want like your butt, thighs, legs and core."
You can do the squats anywhere. But balancing on a ball increases your core work.
Next up? Mountain climbers! Blei advises doing ten on each leg, then go back to the boxing.
"We're now going to go into frog hops," she continues."Go all the way down and then jump up. Do ten of those, and after you do the ten go back to shadow boxing again."
You might not lose a lot of weight, but you'll feel more toned and will likely have more energy.
