SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – A man was stabbed at a Scottsdale motel during a fight over a suspected drug transaction, according to police.
Police were called to a room at the Motel 6 near 68th Street and Camelback Road Wednesday night after a woman reported being assaulted.
Officers arrived and contacted Athena C. Himmel, who told them that Chris Jones and forced his way into the room and assaulted her.
Jones and Carlos Guzman, who was in the room at the time, then began fighting. Police said Guzman pulled out a knife and stabbed Jones multiple times in the abdomen.
Jones, 25, of Scottsdale, fled the scene and was found a few blocks away after a resident reported he was injured in their front yard. He was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Guzman, 23, of Scottsdale, was located on the motel property a short distance from the room. Police said he admitted to stabbing Jones and was arrested.
Officers believe Guzman and Himmel were dealing heroin out of the room and it appears that Jones went to the room to collect money related to a drug transaction.
Officers said they found narcotics in the room.
Himmel, 21, of Fountain Hills, was arrested for multiple drug-related charges. Guzman was arrested for aggravated assault and drug offenses.
