Man arrested in fatal shooting of co-worker at Buckeye farm

BUCKEYE, Ariz. – A 62-year-old Avondale man was arrested for the shooting death of a co-worker at a Buckeye farm Friday morning.

According to the Buckeye Police Department, a caller reported that an employee of the farm had shot another worker and was still on the scene near Broadway Road and Jackrabbit Trail.

Police responded and took Francisco Macias into custody without further incident.

Herme Rene Escobar, 48, of Buckeye, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Macias was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail for second-degree murder.

Police said Escobar had been an employee of the farm for just over a month and Macias has been employed by the farm for more than 10 years.

Police did not release a motive for the shooting.
