FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. – Two people are dead after a semi truck and a car collided on southbound State Route 87 at milepost 179 east of Fountain Hills.

It happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday at SR 87 and Center Street, which is west of Mesa Drive.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the car rolled over, killing the two people inside. Those victims were later identified as Earl Beasaw, 85, and Janice Sipple, 85, both of Mesa. According to DPS, Beasaw was behind the wheel.

Investigators said Beasaw was on Center Street, approaching State Route 87, when he either failed to stop or failed to yield. The semi hit hit Beasaw's sedan broadside.

DPS said both Beasaw and Sipple were wearing their seat belts, but they were dead by the time emergency responders got to them.

The Beeline Highway was closed in the area for several hours.
