SCOTTSDALE -- Three people were taken into custody in Scottsdale Tuesday night after suspects attacked a customer at a smoke shop near Scottsdale and Thomas roads.

Scottsdale police say at 8 p.m., Dominic Gomez, 20, and a 17-year-old male entered the Quality Smoke Shop at 7110 E. Thomas Road and shoplifted some items. During the crime, they were confronted by a customer at the store and the suspects fled the scene.

A short time later, police say the suspects returned to the store with a handgun, shots were fired, and one of the suspects used the gun to pistol-whip the customer, striking him in the head.

The patron in the store suffered a superficial wound to the head. He was transported to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center to be treated for the injury but was released a short time later.

Police say the suspects fled the scene and drove to the Vintage Apartments at 7440 E. Thomas Road. They were taken into custody immediately, while a third person with them began to run through the complex. He was later arrested a short distance away.

Police said the third person was not booked.

The juvenile's name was not released.
