PHOENIX -- A man accused of killing his girlfriend's baby daughter last month has pleaded not guilty.

Adrian Ponce, 21, faces nine felony counts of child abuse after admitting to police that he burned 8-month-old Sabrina Santos-Vasquez with a cigarette lighter and shook her to stop her from crying hours later.

Ponce, who is not the child's biological father, was arrested July 25.

He has an initial pretrial conference on Sept. 30.
