Mesa police identify deceased in car accident

MESA, Ariz. -- Police have identified the man who died in a car crash on Sunday, as well as the man who caused it.

Jared Carter, 35, was sitting in the backseat of a vehicle that was hit on Alma School and Broadway Roads. There is no word on the condition of the other passengers.

The driver, Matthew Crisp, 27, was hospitalized in intensive care. He faces pending charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Police believe impairment could be a factor in the crash, though test results are still pending.
