CHANDLER, Ariz. – Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a gated community in Chandler.

According to Sgt. Joseph Favazzo, a woman walking her dog in the neighborhood southwest of Ocotillo and Alma School roads spotted the body in some bushes near a greenbelt at about 6 a.m. Monday.

Favazzo said is that of an 18-year-old resident of that neighborhood. He was wearing only shorts and tennis shoes. Police believe the man had a shirt at some point. They found one in the neighborhood.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Investigators do not know how the man died. Police said there are no obvious signs of trauma. It will be up to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Homicide investigators are trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol might have been factors in the man's death. They said it's also possible that the man suffered from some kind of medical condition.

About three hours before the man's body was found, police received a call about a man “stumbling and falling in the area." A resident said he was awakened when a man lurched into his closed garage door, causing quite a ruckus. Officers searched the area, but they did not find anybody.

“We believe this may be the same person,” Favazzo said.

Police expected were on the scene for several hours as they worked to identify the man and piece together what happened to him.

Police have not released the man's name.
