TUCSON, Ariz. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection says a Tucson man was arrested Thursday at the Port of Nogales for allegedly trying to smuggle almost 13 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly three pounds of cocaine into the country.

The drugs were discovered after the 26-year-old’s vehicle was pulled aside for additional inspection.

During the inspecting, a narcotics canine reportedly alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

Officers went on to discover two packages of cocaine and 12 packages of methamphetamine. The drugs had an estimated street value of more than $225,000.

The drugs and the vehicle were processed for seizure. The man was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
