CPB officers find drugs in spare tire, false compartment

DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- Customs and Border Protection agents arrested two people in separate incidents for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the United States.

On Thursday, a narcotics detection canine discovered almost 363 pounds of marijuana throughout a 47-year-old Douglas woman's Dodge van. The drugs, estimated to be worth more than $163,000, were also discovered in her spare tire.

Later that day, a 39-year-old man from Sonora, Mexico was arrested when a detection canine alerted to a false compartment behind the backseat of his Chevrolet truck. The compartment contained more than 111 pounds of marijuana, valued at $50,000.
