PHOENIX -- Firefighters from four Valley cities were called in to help battle a blaze at a home in South Scottsdale on Thursday.

The fire broke out just before noon at a home near McKellips and Scottsdale Roads. Crews from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa responded to the fire. In all, 34 firefighters worked to bring the flames under control and help the homeowner and pets to safety.

The fire apparently started in the laundry room. The occupant of the home, along with six cats and four dogs, were all evacuated from the residence without harm. Some of the cats received oxygen from paramedics.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
