EL MIRAGE, Ariz. -- A press conference was held Friday afternoon at an El Mirage fire station to recognize a young girl who saved her mother's life.
Sofia Walters, 7, couldn't wake up her mother early Tuesday morning. Immediately, she called 911, and El Mirage police and fire departments were on the scene within minutes.
The mother was only semi-conscious and breathing shallow. Officials say she gained consciousness and stabilized after paramedics administered medication.
"Were it not for the quick actions of Sofia, the outcome could have been very different. This is a great example for parents to take the time to teach their kids how to use the phone in emergencies," said Howard Muding, El Mirage Fire Chief. "This was truly a life-saving situation."
Sofia will also be recognized at a future El Mirage City Council meeting.
