Motorcycle rider killed in Carefree Highway collision

PHOENIX -- Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident at 14th Street and the Carefree Highway. 

According to detectives on scene it appears the 34-year-old male driver of a Nissan Armada SUV was traveling southbound on 14th Street when it stopped to make a left turn onto the Carefree Highway. 

After stopping the SUV the driver made a left turn without seeing any traffic coming. However, as the vehicle pulled out into the roadway the driver saw the motorcycle coming. 

The motorcycle collided with the driver's side of the SUV.

The 56-year-old male rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The rider of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet.

Impairment and criminal speeding is not believed to be factors in this fatal accident.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the incident.
