MESA, Ariz. -- A 22-year-old man is accused of stabbing his parents in their Mesa home over the weekend.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, a 48-year-old woman called police to report she had been stabbed by her son and that he was attacking her 54-year-old husband, according to Sgt. Tony Landato with the Mesa Police Department.
The woman said that her son has a "mental illness."
Mesa police officers responded to the parents' home near Broadway and Lindsay roads and found the two victims bleeding profusely from multiple wounds.
Landato said officers located a knife at the scene.
Emergency medical treatment was administered and both victims were transported to a local hospital. They are expected to survive.
Officers quickly located Zachary Schneider and took him into custody without incident.
Schneider was booked on two counts of aggravated assault.
