FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Flagstaff police have released surveillance video and a sketch of a suspect in a July 21 sexual assault.

Police said a woman walking home from the downtown area was physically and sexually assaulted at approximately 2:30 a.m.

According to Sgt. James Jackson, the suspect asked the victim for directions and engaged in a short conversation with her as they walked. After she gave the suspect the directions and began to walk away, he asked her another question then grabbed her from behind.

The suspect is described as a Native American male in his early to mid-20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 200 pounds with medium-length black hair. He appears to have been wearing a gray or light-colored hooded sweatshirt at the time of the attack.

Police believe the suspect was in the downtown area prior to contacting the victim.

A surveillance video from a local business shows the victim and suspect walking together. At one point, the suspect appears to put his head down as a passing vehicle approaches, according to Jackson.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact police at 928-679-4074 or 928-679-4075. Call Silent Witness at 928-774-6111 to remain anonymous.
