Man dies after cliff jump at Tanque Verde Falls

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A man died after jumping from a cliff at Tanque Verde Falls east of Tucson on Sunday.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, witnesses reported seeing the man jump off the cliff into a pool of water shortly before 5 p.m. He sustained a head injury.

The man did not immediately resurface and bystanders pulled him from the water. He was unconscious and not breathing.

The bystanders started life-saving measures until sheriff's deputies arrived. He was pronounced dead after paramedics arrived a short time later.

The victim's name was not released, but authorities said he was a 29-year-old man from the Tucson area.
